thlog 5/5/16

5/5/16
I can’t believe it’s already week 6. This is crazy. We are already writing our WP2s. In a way, I’m excited to write my WP2, but I’m also slightly nervous that it won’t come out in the best way that I know it potentially could.
Writing the other assignments sort of reminded me of when I’d be at soccer practice, and we would isolate certain moves (jukes, stuff like that). So it was easier to just focus on that in the moment and carry out that specific move over and over again, with complete accuracy in attention.
However, now the WP2 is like being in the actual soccer game and implementing all of those moves into your play. And if you don’t do it right, then you won’t get the ball to the goal—or you will lose the reader of your essay and they will not get your final point. The previous writing assignments should have given me enough practice to now integrate all of these components into my WP2, but I just hope I can carry them out with the same accuracy as I did before.
On another note, I think I settled on a good topic. I picked the topic of hookup culture, and more specifically, people’s reactions to or opinions on hookup culture. I thought this was an interesting topic because of the amount of controversy surrounding it. I saw so many articles saying that the entire idea of said culture was exaggerated and it was not actually a problem faced by young adults. These articles were met with the same amount of contrasting opinions that hookup culture is ruining dating, and is a disgrace to the current millennial generation.
However, despite what opinions people had, they were all interestingly had by adults who likely do not actively partake in hookup culture. For this reason, I tried to find articles that portrayed what the young people in the culture really thought; what are their feelings after a “hookup”? Do they consider these actions okay?
I think I will enjoy writing about this topic because it is so relevant to young people, especially on college campuses.
